Revenge is Fun
As a Scorpio, I was born with a certain little vengeful streak. Scorpios (and I'm speaking in generalities) do not like to be wronged and when they are, they will seek retribution of one form or another... even among friends. Case in point: About a week ago (and I should pause to warn you that I will be using many geek terms so please refer to the glossary below if you need), a friend of mine sent me a message to say hello and while we were talking she mentioned that she will be attending DragonCon this year. DragonCon is the biggest sci fi/fantasy convention in the country with an annual attendance of well over 30,000. She also mentioned that she wished to go in cosplay as Kaylee from the TV series Firefly. I wasn't entirely sure she could pull it off and mentioned that to her. She asked why and I told her that it was because her personality was just not Kaylee and so I couldn't imagine her being able to pull of the sunny disposition of the character. She then proceeded to speak to me in a very condescending manner about how cosplay is being someone new and other such things. I am an anime geek... and she was lecturing me about cosplay. I mentioned that and she said 'well, just in case you forgot.' Uh huh... yeah, that qualifies as being wronged in my book. Oh sure, I was aware that the whole thing was in good fun but still... she spoke to me like I was an idiot. Revenge shall be had. Fast forward to last night and she messaged me again with an image this time of a figurine she saw. The figurine was from a very typical looking Japanese high school girl in her summer uniform. My friend wanted to know what anime the character was from and if she was from an anime I didn't know what it was. She pouted a little since she was thinking of cosplaying her as well but didn't want to do it if she couldn't identify the anime it was from. I don't know why the next thought came into my head but it did and I smiled. Revenge is mine. After she was done pouting I very gently suggested to her that if she were looking for something along the lines of the look and costuming of the figure she saw that she could do an image search for characters from the series 'Bible Black'. Now... my friend is not an anime geek, she pretty much hates it. So she had no idea that 'Bible Black' is actually the name of a very famous and very twisted hentai series and I wasn't going to be the one to tell her. So off she went to do a search... "OH CRAP NAKED PEOPLE!, warn a girl next time." I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard. Glossary: Anime (Ann-uh-may or Ah-knee-may, depending on who you're talking to, I prefer the first because I'm lazy): any animation that comes from Japan though it's also become a blanket term for anything that vaguely resembles anime no matter what country it's from. Con: Short for convention. Cosplay: Short for costume play or dressing up as someone or something. When used in the context of anime, it's someone dressing up like a particular character. Hentai: Japanese animated pornography. Hentai literally translates into 'pervert'
